Raising the Roof – Building our Future Campaign

For over twenty-five years, Key West Wildlife Center has worked day and night to support our native wildlife through difficult rescue and rehabilitation efforts. Our staff and volunteers are ready to meet the challenge, but our aged and worsening facilities cannot keep up. With your support, we can take the next critical steps to replace our clinic and refurbish our aviary, allowing Key West Wildlife Center’s team to continue their lifesaving work.

  • Your donations are critical.
  • Birds and other native species are experiencing unprecedented challenges due to changing weather patterns, continued habitat loss, and other threats.
  • Our new clinic will allow us to treat our patients in a protected location that meets all FEMA standards.
  • Donations will also help restore our aviary.
  • Your help gives each bird, mammal or reptile that is rescued the potential to return to their native habitat and thrive.

New Clinic and Our Future

Our new clinic building will substantially increase both the number of native species we rescue and the level of treatment we can offer. It will provide a larger, more professionally equipped procedure room, a water reconditioning room, and twice the recovery space to reduce crowding and ensure a quieter, less stressful intake and recovery experience.

Also, the building will provide better hygiene for both our patients and staff with new, easy to clean patient enclosures; multiple sinks for procedures, food preparation, and cleaning protocol; and meeting and planning space for our staff.

The updated site will be a significantly safer location with improved fencing and entry gates, an elevated position, a hurricane-hardened exterior and much needed secure storage space. More public display space will be available on our front entry porch and additional rehabilitation space will be located on our rear porch. Expanded educational and outreach opportunities will be provided below the building in an area dedicated to learning. The facility will be fully handicap accessible.

Our structurally restored reconditioning aviary will provide us with a safe and secure area for our large avian patients to progress through their final stages of recovery. The significant time spent in the aviary provides for strengthening, socializing, and regained comfort with all aspects of self-care.

The Key West Wildlife Center is committed to our mission to ensure the future of our diverse native wildlife by providing timely rescues and quality rehabilitation with the hope of release back to the wild.

The new clinic facility and restored aviary will dramatically improve our ability to accomplish this work now and for many years to come.
